A few weeks ago, I pitched an idea for my latest astronomy column to Ed Miller, editor of The Provincetown Independent. “How about UFOs and aliens?”
I was prepared to defend the idea tooth and nail. There is some real science to explore concerning strange lights in the sky and the existence (or not) of extraterrestrial intelligence. But unfortunately, and not surprisingly, there is also a lot of pseudoscience, tin foil hats, and conspiracy theories. (I confess to being a serious fan of The X-Files back in the day.)
But Ed didn’t even hesitate. “Sounds great!”
Thanks, Ed (and Teresa, the publisher). Sometimes I can’t believe I get paid to do this.
