Winter skies are the best for astronomy. Stars shine brilliantly against a steady black sky, very different from the hazy, shimmery skies of summer. But you pay a price for such skies in the currency of numb fingers, frozen feet, and violent shivering. Unless you’re eight and impervious to cold, like the boy who, despite his parents protests, insisted on looking through the telescope.
But, hey, once I warm up in a few days, I’m sure it will seem worth it. The Moon did look glorious under that clear, steady winter sky.
